Export & grid-charging permissions
Exporting to the grid and charging your Powerwall from the grid can have real utility and compliance implications — so SolDial puts you in control.
You attest, the app respects it
In System Info you answer two questions: do you have permission to export to the grid, and are you allowed to charge your Powerwall from the grid? These are your settings.
What that controls
- If you say yes — SolDial may build strategies that rely on that capability and, when beneficial, adjust the matching setting on your Tesla account on your behalf.
- If you say no — SolDial will never build a strategy that depends on it, and is blocked from changing that setting at all.
Permission vs. setting
Your SolDial answer is your permission and only you change it. The actual Tesla toggle is an operational setting the app may manage within that permission — for example switching your account to solar-only export as a strategy — without ever changing your stated permission.
Exporting stored battery energy
Your export permission covers stored battery energy too (Tesla’s “Everything” setting). Tesla only offers that setting where your utility permits storage export, so if it exists in your Tesla app, it is yours to use. Two things to know: Tesla sends stored energy to the grid only in Time-Based Control (in Self-Powered or Backup the setting does nothing), and whether it pays depends on your plan. On a flat 1:1 net-metering plan it never does, since the credit equals the price you paid to store it minus the round trip; on a 1:1 time-of-use plan it earns the peak rate for surplus stored solar inside the peak window; on net billing or NEM 3.0 it pays in the hours where the export credit beats the import price. Autopilot works this out from your rates and only uses “Everything” where it comes out ahead.
