Glossary

Quick definitions of the terms you'll see around SolDial.

Net metering (NEM)

How your utility credits the solar energy you export to the grid.

1:1 net metering

Exports credited at the same rate you pay to import — the grid acts like a perfect battery.

NBT (Net Billing Tariff)

Exports credited at a lower, often time-varying rate than imports.

NEM 3.0

California's Net Billing successor where export value follows the avoided-cost schedule — low midday, high at the evening peak, and locked to your interconnection vintage.

ACC (Avoided Cost Calculator)

The California framework that sets time- and season-varying export values under NEM 3.0.

PTO (Permission To Operate)

Your utility's authorization to operate (and export from) your solar system. Your NEM 3.0 export values are locked from your PTO date.

TOU (Time-of-Use)

A rate plan where the price of electricity changes by time of day, day of week, and season.

Backup reserve

The Powerwall charge level held in reserve for outages.

Time-Based Control (TBC)

A Powerwall mode that charges and discharges the battery against your rate schedule to capture price differences.
